The Disability Torah Project centers the perspectives and experiences of disabled people in the study of Torah, uplifting disabled wisdom in order to grow the library of disability Torah.
This project was born out of deep reverence and gratitude for those who share their disabled Torah, and a desire for more.
We aim to engage all learners interested in exploring the weekly parasha through the lens of disability. This includes examining explicit disability themes in the text, using the Torah as a springboard to explore lived experiences of disability, dreaming and building disabled futures, and delving into everything in between and beyond.
Each week we publish a written piece by a disabled writer on the weekly Torah portion, studied and explored through the perspective of disability. Some writers dive deep into the text, others reflect on their lived experiences, while some will engage disability conceptually. We don’t suppose that there is one right way to share disability Torah.
While we strive to learn from as many perspectives as possible, we acknowledge that the nature of a writing-focused project does exclude some. We are actively brainstorming ways to expand our work and include a broader range of engagement with Torah. If you have ideas for involvement beyond contributing written pieces, we welcome connecting with you.
